Why you need to be WorkSmart!

August 27th, 2009

People often ask me, “what are WorkSmarts?” they are the collective set of professional skills that you need to get ahead at work. While a university degree might get you a job, it is no guarantee for helping you get ahead at work. Today’s employers are looking to employee people who are streetsmart and worksmart. They want people who are pro active and productive and who know how to get things done.

All too often the average manager has to wait until their performance appraisal to learn what skills then manager organisation believes that they need to develop over the coming 12 months. That type of attitude regarding one’s career is incredibly reactive. I believe in order to succeed in the workplace, and to develop your worksmarts you need to be proactive about your career and about the skills that you need to get you from where you are today to where you need to be tomorrow.

Over the coming weeks of the sharing with you a number of ideas and insights to help you get ahead at work and to become the type of manager or employee any organisation would want to keep.

If you want to become a more productive manager; if you want to be someone who other people look up to; if you believe that you are capable of being more than you are at the moment, then I am glad you are here. While I don’t know everything, having worked with hundreds of senior managers and organisations for nearly 2 decades I do know that they are looking for managers who don’t just have a diploma or degree, but also use their WorkSmarts.
